Fire Service makes appeal as resources are stretched to the limit
AS FIREMEN throughout Inishowen battle to keep a gorse fire in Clonmany under control, the Fire Service have warned people not to light fires in the countryside, as resources are stretched to the limit.
A gorse fire near the Glennevin Waterfall outside Clonmany has been burning now for three days, with fire fighters battling the flames since Saturday afternoon.
Donegal County Council has warned people to stay away from the tourist hotspot until the firemen are able to bring the flames under control.
However there were also fires in Tullydish, Buncrana, Fahan and Moville.
A spokesperson for the Donegal Fire Service revealed that they attended 58 gorse fires throughout last weekend – the majority of which were in Inishowen.
