‘Darren was looking down on me’

Buncrana teen is ‘honoured’ to be crowned Miss Donegal

A BUNCRANA teenager was jumping for joy on Saturday night after she became the second local girl in as many years to be named Miss Donegal.

17-year-old Lauren McDonagh beat off stiff competition on Friday in Letterkenny as she was crowned Miss Donegal.

“When they announced my name I was shocked but over the moon,” Lauren told the ‘Inishowen Independent’ yesterday.

“My daddy just ran up and grabbed me, giving me the biggest hug and telling me how proud he was of me and my mammy was not far behind him.”

It was Lauren’s mum Ann who told her daughter about the Miss Donegal competition and encouraged her to enter

“I just sent them a message after my mum saw the post on Facebook. I went for an interview last Sunday week and was told I was one of the finalists. I couldn’t believe it. The final was held in The Cavern Bar in Letterkenny and it was a great event – everyone was really nice and the girls taking part were all lovely genuine girls,” added Lauren.

The youngest and only daughter of Ann and Tom McDonagh of Pillar Park, Lauren has three big brothers, Jason, Darren and Ciaran. However sadly her brother Darren passed away in 2008 after losing his battle with Duchene muscular dystrophy.
