Donegal has the second highest unemployment rate in the country, further data released from Census 2016 this week has revealed.
The unemployment rate in Donegal last year was 18 per cent, behind only County Longford on 19.6 per cent, and significantly higher than the State average of 12.9 per cent.
Despite its high jobless rate however, Donegal is trending in the right direction and showed the greatest single decrease of any county in Ireland – from an unemployment rate of 26.2 per cent at Census 2011 to 18 per cent at Census 2016.
