Pier tragedy inquest to begin in November

Coroner to explore safety issues at Buncrana Pier
THE INQUEST into the deaths of five people who died in the Buncrana Pier Tragedy
will be heard before the end of the year, a pre evidential hearing has heard.
Last Friday a pre evidential hearing in the deaths of Sean McGrotty, 49, his sons Mark, 12 and Evan, eight, his partner’s mother Ruth Daniels, and Ms Daniels’ daughter Jodie Lee determined that their inquest will be heard on 22-23 November.
The family members drowned when their car slid down the slipway at Buncrana Pier and into Lough Swilly on the evening of Sunday March 20, last year.
At a pre-evidential hearing in Buncrana last Friday, Coroner Dr Denis McCauley said this was a terrible tragedy in which five people lost their lives.
