Golf-themed roundabouts to promote Irish Open

‘We have to use this chance to promote all golf clubs here’

A number of prominent roundabouts in Inishowen are set to be transformed into miniature golf courses, complete with greens and bunkers, as a novel means of advertising the upcoming 2018 Irish Open, hosted by Rory McIlroy.

The plan is intended not just to promote Ballyliffin as the host venue but also to market the wider Inishowen region as a top golfing destination, one to rival any in the country.

The man behind the idea, Cllr Paul Canning, who yesterday secured the support of Donegal County Council, is himself a keen golfer and plays off a serviceable handicap of thirteen.

Canning, an architect, is so keen to “get the ball rolling” on his idea that he has even offered to contribute design drawings free of charge.
