Local jobless rate is twice the national average

The unemployment rate in Inishowen is more than double the national rate while women are eleven times more likely than men to work in the home here, newly released Census data has revealed.

The data, released by the Central Statistics Offices, shows that just under 16.4 per cent of the Inishowen labour force was unemployed on Census night, April 24 2016, at a time when the national rate was 8.4 per cent.

The Inishowen unemployment rate has dipped in the fifteen months since then and currently stands at 13.7 per cent, however that figure is still more than twice the current national rate of 6.3 per cent.
