Four gable walls set to be demolished after defective blocks discovered

Part of an Inishowen primary school is set to be demolished after mica was discovered in the building framework.

Four exterior gable walls at St Aengus’ NS, Bridgend will be knocked down and rebuilt after the defective blocks were identified.

The Department of Education has sanctioned funding for the restoration work, which is currently out to tender and expected to get underway next month.

The school will remain open throughout the work and the Board of Management has stressed that there is no threat to pupils.
