Parents cough up €800 to sending child to secondary school

 

INISHOWEN FAMILIES may be struggling financially as they prepare for rising back to school costs, it’s been revealed.

With just over one week to go until thousands of school children across the peninsula return to school, parents may be struggling to find the €355, on average, needed to kit out primary school children, and around €800 for secondary school children.

This figure is slightly higher than last year.

The Barnardos’ Annual School Costs Survey has found that parents are bearing the brunt of an ‘underfunded education system’.

The charity says that parents are stressed and over-burdened by back to school costs, especially those on low incomes.
