‘Potential for loss of life was very real’

Fianna Fail leader visits flood-damaged Inishowen

 

Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin says Inishowen was “devastated” by the recent flooding but “lucky” to have avoided loss of life.

Deputy Martin was in the peninsula yesterday, when he visited a number of homes, farms, businesses and sports clubs ravaged by last Tuesday’s storm.

“We are very lucky that there wasn’t a loss of life here. Someone could easily have been washed away,” he said during a visit to Cockhill.

“We have just been to a home with three kids where the mudslide came the whole way down but by the grace of God plus some great work carried out by locals it bypassed the house.”
