€1m spent on flood ‘several more’ needed

Work to repair flood-damaged Inishowen continues at pace this week, with €1 million already spent on the initial clean-up operation and minor road repairs.

Donegal County Council director of services John McLaughlin estimates that “several more million” will be needed in the coming weeks and months however as the authority continues to address serious issues with housing and the roads network.

Fifty families made homeless by the flood have registered with the council but “solutions” have only been found for nineteen of these families to date.

Many remain in temporary accommodation, including at B&Bs and hotels.
