22 week driving test delays

A 22 WEEK wait for a driving test in Buncrana is not acceptable, says a councillor.

Buncrana-based independent councillor Nicholas Crossan said more needs to be done to address the lengthy driving test waiting times at Inishowen’s only driving testing centre.

While the RSA’s website says the waiting time for the driving test is approximately 16 weeks, he said the reality is it’s a 22 week long wait.

He said: “In 2006 we had six testers in Donegal and now we only have two, with enough applications for four. So far this year only seven new testers nationwide, the North West received none.

“I’ve campaigned that we in rural areas need our young people to get their driving licences to help them get to colleges and work.”

Cllr Crossan said it is essential more testers are appointed to the Buncrana test centre immediately.
