‘Huge relief’ as planning permission REFUSED for Moville mast

The site of the planned new telecommunications mast in Moville.
Planning permission for a new telecommunications mast in the centre of Moville has been REFUSED, the Inishowen Independent can reveal.
Eir planned to erect a 24-metre high structure, with associated antennae and communications dishes, at the site of the local telephone exchange along the Back Lane.
However Donegal County Council rejected the application in recent days on the grounds that the metal structure would be out-of-keeping within a residential area in the middle of Moville.
The council says its policy, under the County Development Plan 2018-2024, is that such infrastructure should instead be erected on industrial estates.
A total of eight local people had lodged objections to the mast and they were written to last Friday with the council’s judgement.
Councillor Martin Farren, who had opposed the mast from the beginning, strongly welcomed the decision not to grant planning permission.
“I think the people of Moville will breathe a huge sigh of relief now, particularly the parents of the children at the national schools nearby as well as the residents who live around that area.”
