McConalogue appointed to Cabinet

Inishowen TD Charlie McConalogue has been appointed Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine this afternoon (Wednesday).
The Fianna Fáil TD, first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2011, had briefly served as a minister of state in the Department of Justice.

Minister McConalogue takes over as agriculture minister following the resignation of Dara Calleary, who resigned in the aftermath of Oireachtas golfing dinner controversy. Calleary himself had only been in office for a few weeks having replaced Barry Cowen who had resigned over a drink driving controversy.
Originally from Gleneely, Minister McConalogue lives in Burt with his wife Jackie and two young children.
The new minister was appointed after a vote of the Dáil and will receive his seal of office from President Michael D Higgins later today.
