The stakes could not be higher on Saturday afternoon in Buncrana when Inishowen rivals Burt and Urris go head to head for a place in Division 3 next season.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent earlier in the week, Urris boss Danny Kelly was adamant that promotion to Division 3 is vital for his club. “We have been aiming for promotion from the start of the season and anything less than that would be seen as a failure as far as I am concerned,” said the Urris boss.
Although he is confident that his side can get the job done, Kelly will be taking nothing for granted against the Burt men.
“We know all about Burt and they have players who can punish us if we are not on our game. “Boys like Joe Boyle and Conor Harkin are excellent footballers and they will take some watching on Saturday.”
Kelly’s opposite number on Saturday will be Gary Duffy who took a different view to him regarding the importance of the fixture.
“To be honest we are ahead of schedule with our plans this season, as we didn’t actually expect to get promoted. When I came in here at the beginning of the season I realised that we needed to build for the future with the younger players and to be in a promotion playoff is a bonus for us, although we will obviously be looking to win it, now we’re here” said the Burt supremo.
When asked what players he will be looking to keep quiet on Saturday, Duffy gave this view. “Eddie Kelly coming back will be a massive help to Urris and the likes of Kevin and Mark McLaughlin can be very dangerous if given the right supply so we will have to try and keep these boy’s quiet if we are to give ourselves a chance of winning the game.”
