Last stop for Swilly but Translink could save the day
THE LOUGH Swilly Bus Company is set to be wound up tomorrow but many of the eighty employees’ jobs could be saved with Ulsterbus set to take over some of the routes.
Ulsterbus parent company Translink refused to confirm or deny an interest in the Lough Swilly routes yesterday afternoon but the Inishowen Independent understands that the NI firm has earmarked some of them. A Translink spokesperson in Belfast yesterday said: “We are not in a position to discuss the future of bus routes operated by the Lough Swilly Bus Company.”
However sources within Ulsterbus have told this newspaper that plans to operate some routes within Donegal are at an advanced stage with the company already examining potential locations on which to erect bus shelters.
