New fund to fix up three ghost estates
ALMOST half a million euro has been set aside to renovate three problematic Inishowen housing estates before the end of the year, Donegal County Council have revealed.
This week the council were awarded a total of €240,738 in order to carry out emergency work at Gerard’s Way in Carndonagh, Monreagh in Burnfoot and Cois na hAbhainn in Malin under the Government’s Special Resolution Fund.
However the Council themselves have secured a further €242,742 in ‘private leveraged’ investment, the majority of which is believed to have come from the developer’s bond monies and ‘other private investments’ to spend on the three estates, bringing the total spend to €483,480.
The funds will be targeted to principally address infrastructural deficiencies within the developments such as roads and footpaths, water and sewer services, public lighting and amenity or open space areas.
