Celebrating ‘good and positive’ Inishowen
Buncrana is getting set to celebrate Feel Good Fortnight by celebrating all that is good and positive about Inishowen.
Now in its third year the award winning festival, it won the Judge’s Special Award in last year’s All Ireland Pride of Place, will run from June 21 until July 5.
Ruth Garvey Williams the chair of Insight Inishowen said: “What we are aiming for is two weeks of sunshine regardless what the weather is.
“We want to celebrate all that is good and positive within the community in Inishowen.
“We have an absolutely packed programme which will have something for anyone and we just want to promote well being across the community.”
Ruth outlined some of the highlights of the fortnight.
She said: “On June 28 we have ‘Take it to the streets’ when people are being encouraged to take to the streets of Buncrana.
“We will have all sorts of activities going on, arts and crafts, barbecues music and everything.
“On July 5 the highlight of the fortnight will be the Mad Hatters tea Party on the shore green.”
She added: “We have all sorts of Alison in Wonderland theme and are hoping to build the biggest sandcastle.
“It will be great fun for all the family and you better believe the sun is going to shine because in Inishowen we make our own sunshine.”
Other events include the Grianan summer solstice festival on June 21, a history and heritage walk on June 22 and a fun play morning for toddlers on June 24.
Tuesday July 1 sees gentle yoga and throughout the fortnight there will be recurring themes of healthy eating and the like.
Among the other events lined up for July 4 is a surfer taster event.
