Two Buncrana sisters robbed during a charity mission in Kenya last week are back home safe in Inishowen after a terrifying ordeal.
Aid volunteers Sonia and Bridgeen Harkin, from Linsfort, were in Nairobi last Thursday when they targeted by a gang of six men who ordered them to the floor before stealing all their belongings, including jewellery, passports, mobile phones and almost €1,000 in cash.
The Inishowen women, who were in the Kenyan capital working as volunteers for ‘Africa Direct’, had been in a meeting with local charity officials discussing ways on how best to spend the money they had raised when the thieves burst in.
Bridgeen, who had her grandmother’s ring pulled off her finger by one of the attackers, described the frightening incident.
