A bakery that refused to make a cake emblazoned with the slogan, ‘support gay marriage’, below a picture of Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie could be taken to court for breaching equality law.
Apparently the baking company, said to be run by Christians, refused to make the cake because it goes against the directors’ religious beliefs [that old chestnut again].
The Christian Institute is backing the bakery, saying that the ‘case proves the need for the law to reasonably accommodate family-run businesses with firmly held beliefs’.
And the location of this anti-gay marriage behind-the-times bakery?
Wouldn’t you just know it. The good living old North. Where else? Newtownabbey to be exact.
Consistently behind the times as ever.
