Final event at National Ploughing Championships today
The Donegal footballers slumped to Kerry at Croke Park last Sunday evening but one local team is still hopeful of landing an historic All-Ireland title for the county.
The Inishowen Vintage Club tractor build team is in pole position for the coveted crown at the National Ploughing Championships, currently ongoing at Stradbally, Co. Laois.
After going head-to-head with teams from Cork, Cavan and Galway, members Brian Kelly, Noel Doherty, Paddy Barr and Joey Lyle are ten seconds clear going into today’s [Thursday] final round of the Ferguson T20 build.
The quartet, from the Moville and Greencastle area, won’t be taking anything for granted just yet though with the team from Mountbellew/Moylough lying close behind in second place.
The tractor build competition began back in June with the first round at Ballybrit Racecourse and now the local men, along with coach Owen McGinley, are just one strong performance away from the prestigious trophy.
They won’t lack for motivation ahead of the final contest after missing out on All-Ireland glory by a narrow two seconds to the team from Cork last year.
