‘This would have a hugely detrimental effect on patient safety’
INISHOWEN’S OUT-OF-HOURS doctor service will cease in less than two weeks unless an ‘impasse’ between the HSE in Letterkenny and CareDoc can be overcome.
The Inishowen Independent has learned that CareDoc, which was introduced to the NowDoc region in 2013 and coordinates red-eye services in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, is set to withdraw from the north-west region on March 1st because of ‘differences’ with the HSE over issues of funding and autonomy.
Moville GP Dr. Don McGinley said the cessation of the overnight CareDoc model would plunge local healthcare into the ‘dark ages’.
“Our primary concern is for our patients and this would have a hugely detrimental effect when it comes to patient safety,” he warned.
