INISHOWEN’S TOP COP has warned business people throughout Inishowen to be extra vigilant after it emerged that fake currency was uncovered in Buncrana. Superintendent Eugene McGovern urged shopkeepers to take extra precautions to check all bank notes coming into their shops. “The reality of the situation is that there are checks that can be done on the day,” he said. “There are pens and other tools available which shop workers can use to check notes. It is so important for businesses to be vigilant in relation to fake notes at all times.” The Superintendent’s warning comes after it was revealed that at least two fake €20 notes were discovered in shops in Buncrana last week. The Buncrana Chamber of Commerce revealed that fake notes were circulating around the town this week. They urged people to be extra vigilant with incoming cash and report all incidents to Gardaí. Supt. McGovern reiterated the calls to report everything to Gardaí as soon as possible.
