Local groups come together to mark World Suicide Prevention Day
Local suicide prevention group, Insight Inishowen, is partnering with the Buncrana GAA club to mark World Suicide Prevention Day this Saturday, September 10.
Local people of all ages will stand together in a simple, symbolic act, demonstrating their determination to be a caring, healthy and resilient community that offers support and help to all those suffering from depression and mental illness.
Since 2009, Insight Inishowen (formerly Buncrana Community Combatting Suicide) has been working to promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the community and now runs a free [donation-based] counselling service.
“The GAA does tremendous work with so many young people in our community and we are so grateful to Buncrana GAA for their support and willingness to get involved,” said Insight Inishowen chairperson, Ruth Garvey-Williams.
“September 10 is an opportunity to stand together and share the message that help is available and that each one of us can play our part in creating a caring and resilient community.”
