Malin, Moville excel during fantastic day for Inishowen
Buncrana won a second consecutive gold medal in the national Tidy Towns contest, the results of which were released yesterday.
Delighted members of the Buncrana Tidy Towns Initiative were in Dublin to accept the medal, awarded in the large town category.
Twice an overall winner, Malin scooped a silver medal in the small town section and remains as Inishowen’s tidiest place, now just a single point ahead of Buncrana.
PRO Nuala Clafferty revealed that the Buncrana Tidy Towns Initiative has its sights firmly set on the overall title, won last year by Letterkenny, after another stellar showing.
Buncrana was one of three towns in the county [after Letterkenny and Glenties] to earn a gold medal.
Malin Tidy Towns chairman John McLaughlin, whose picture featured on the front page of the glossy results booklet, hailed another good performance that sees Malin as the third prettiest town in the county.
All nine Inishowen entrants increased their totals from last year, with Moville breaking through the 300-point barrier for the first time, to retain its status as the peninsula’s third tidiest place.
