TODAY IS the most romantic day of the year.
And the proof is in the pudding.
Local shops have been busy selling thousands of boxes of chocolates and cuddly toys, restaurants and hotels were abuzz last week with smitten couples and even one florist is reporting that they’ve completely sold out of roses.
But all this lovely-dovey behaviour may be nothing new to Inishowen.
Revelations this week, may even suggest that there’s always been a weak spot in the peninsula for the most romantic day of the year.
Just last week, a passionate 19th century St Valentine’s letter/poem was unearthed in the Donegal County Archives.
And the recipient, we suspect, was none other than a member of a well-known Gleneely family.
Donegal County Archivist, Niamh Brennan, says the Valentine’s letter appears to be penned by a ‘A Sinclaire’ and was found coincidentally in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, when they were undertaking routine archiving.
