Film crew, actors descend on Lagg Beach to shoot new Hollywood blockbuster
Malin is back in the movie business, with a second Hollywood blockbuster in four years having just been filmed in the area.
Scenes from ‘The Northman’ were shot on Five Fingers Strand last Monday, after a huge production crew had descended on the coastal location of Lagg.
The upcoming movie, which stars a host of household names from the big screen, including Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke, is a Viking revenge epic set in 10th century Iceland.
Filming began at Ballygally, County Antrim last month and continued in Inishowen last week, when hundreds of crew members and actors travelled to Lagg Beach, a few miles north of Malin.
‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ established Malin as one of the premiere filming locations in Ireland in 2016 and ‘The Northman’ – which also stars Icelandic singer Bjork – once again puts the small Inishowen town in the spotlight.
Filming for the movie was kept strictly secret – with a security firm on duty to avert prying eyes – and it’s unclear whether or not any of the A-list stars were on Five Fingers Strand for the scenes last Monday, but Ali Farren is convinced they were.
“I am very reliably informed that at least one or two of the big names were in Malin for the filming,” he said.
