Having been relegated to Division 2 this season, Rashenny were always going to find this a very tough encounter against the First Division champions and so it proved to be as Dan Nolan’s side proved much too strong for their neighbours from the Isle of Doagh.
The key thing for Rashenny, coming into the game as massive underdogs, was to make sure they stayed in the game for as long as they could; so to concede twice in the opening five minutes was an absolute disaster from their point of view.
The Shamrocks went in front with what was their first proper attack of the game in just the second minute when veteran midfielder Steve Harkin slid the ball through for Jason Devlin to cut in from the left and bury low past the helpless Paddy McGilloway….
