Muff teenager Cormac McColgan was the toast of Inishowen traditional music last week when he won the piano accordion competition at the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar.
Having previously won the U12 and U15 titles in 2016 and 2019 respectively, Cormac made it a clean sweep of the under-age competitions by coming out on top in the U18 national final on Saturday 6 August.
Cormac, who is the son of Dermot and Johanne McColgan, is member of the Seamus Mac Giolla Bhríde Comhaltas branch, and a pupil of well-known Linsfort musician Teresa McClure.
“We’re very proud of him, and this year especially,” dad Dermot told the Inishowen Independent yesterday. “Covid disrupted things badly and Cormac couldn’t get over to his music teacher Teresa to practice properly.
“So to win it was very special.”
