The parents of a young Inishowen man who was almost killed while attempting to prevent his car from being stolen are on their way to Australia to see him this morning.
Lee McCarron, from Drumfries, sustained serious head injuries and abrasions to his body after being thrown from his own speeding vehicle last Monday night.
He had earlier jumped onto the roof of the Ford Ranger jeep in a bid to stop a car thief from taking it from the front of his home in Perth, Western Australia.
The 25-year-old, who was rushed to hospital by ambulance following the terrifying ordeal, was still being treated for his injuries at the weekend. His condition was described as stable.
Dramatic CCTV footage, which has been watched by millions online, captures Lee clinging on for dear life to the roof rack of his vehicle as the offender speeds off.
He is later seen shouting for help as the vehicle makes a number of frightening turns at high-speed through the suburbs of Perth.
